English Morphosyntax. On adjectives, adverbs and prepositions is a companion volume to two earlier volumes on English morphosyntax published by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Osijek. Grammatical functions and categories. Part I. The English verb (2001), English morphosyntax. On nouns, determiners and pronouns (2013), and the current volume together cover the morphosyntax of all the major English word classes. Excluded from their joint scope are minor word classes like numerals, conjunctions, and interjections, and special forms like the infinitive marker to, the negator not, etc. The target audience of all three volumes is (undergraduate) students of English language and linguistics, especially those whose mother tongue is Croatian. Generally, by discussing linguistic categories closest to the concrete utterances that a student hears or produces (form and function of words), all three volumes foster the development of crosslinguistic competence in Croatian students of English.
