Abstract

This study presents for the first time a complete catalogue of the alliterating word pairs in Martin Luther’s New Testament (1545), including a discussion of their appearance in the context of the translation, their Biblical context, and the history of their use in German. Related issues such as earlier formulations and subsequent translation revisions are addressed without a claim for being exhaustive.
